Dr. Gloria P. Beyer, Ph.D., the Chief Medical Physicist for MPS and MPSi, was honored by the American Association of Physicists in Medicine during the AAPM’s 56th Annual Meeting and Technical Exhibits in Austin, Texas. Dr. Beyer received the prestigious “Editor in Chief Award of Excellence for an Outstanding General Medical Physics” Article. Through this award, the AAPM singles out one article each year as making an outstanding contribution to the general field of medical physics. Dr. Beyer received this award for her commissioning work on the first TrueBeam linear accelerators published in the article entitled Commissioning Measurements for Photon Beam Data on Three TrueBeam Linear Accelerators, and Comparison with Trilogy and Clinac 2100 Linear Accelerators.
On October 13, 2015, MPSi successfully completed working with the medical physics staff at Centro Hospitalar e Universitario de Coimbra on the commissioning of a new Varian TrueBeam linear accelerator. As the newspaper story above suggests, this was front page news in Coimbra, Portugal. MPSi Senior Physicist Kent Larsen, Ph.D. was featured on the front page of the Diario de Coimbra in a photograph showing him working with one of the local medical physicists.
